Forever Song Cosplay

With the premiere of Mando & Grogu coming in hot, today’s Star Wars post is reflecting on a premiere experience and character that made their marks on me forever- The Last Jedi premiere and Rose Tico. This was such a crazy time in my life, and I still joke that this moment here is where my Star Wars/cosplay life peaked. I wasn’t someone who got invited to premieres. I was not an influencer or even what one would call a “content creator”. I was merely a cosplayer who saw an Asian actress get cast as a lead in Star Wars and was so inspired that I knew I had to cosplay her and do it justice. And somehow it landed me there. Sharing that moment with will always be so special to me, and having that representation in Star Wars meant so much. I will always be grateful to and for those memories. The toxicity that came for Kelly after was awful, and I spent months of my life trying to combat it and inject all the positivity I could muster into the better part of the community. I crossed paths with so many kind souls who were supportive and gracious, who drowned out the ugliness. And years later, seeing Kelly again and recalling our shared memory at Celebration around so many supportive of her- I like to believe that it mattered. Because I know how lucky I was- an opportunity like that would likely never come again, so I wanted it to count and to mean something. To not squander the goodwill I was graced with. Because the stories of Star Wars mean something- and should stay meaningful long after the posts have been made and the cameras are off. ✨🩵

Happy May the 4th! ✨ Gotta commemorate today with my girl, Rey. This was the first Star Wars cosplay I ever did and I know it sounds cliché, but this costume really changed my life. It led me to some wonderful friendships, my time in the Rebel Legion, many special experiences, meeting my husband. I don’t know that my life would look the same without her. So thank you, Rey & Daisy Ridley. May the Force/Fourth be with you. 🩵
