The Department of Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) provides educational programs covering a range of human sciences and services related to children, adults, and families. Graduate study in HDFS at Iowa State University is multidisciplinary and focuses on research and practice in several content areas such as:

Congratulations to Leslie Dooley on being awarded HDFS's Emerging Professional Award! This award is to a student who demonstrates: outstanding research productivity, excellence in classroom teaching, and exceptional service/outreach accomplishments!

Leslie is a 5th year PhD student in HDFS. Her research interests include: breastfeeding, infant development, and early indicators of autism spectrum disorders. In addition to her graduate research, Leslie has collaborated with state agencies, created professional development trainings, and disseminated research at national and international conferences.

Well deserved, Leslie! Congratulations!

ACCI Awards Main Page Nominations 08/27/2018

Congratulations to HDFS doctoral student Jesse Jurgenson, who, with co-authors, was recently awarded the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) Board Best Financial Planning Paper Award at the American Council on Consumer Interests (ACCI) Annual Conference for his project titled, "Framing Longevity Income”. Their findings offer research-based evidence which may be used to both develop and effectively communicate about innovative financial products which may improve later-life financial security for individuals and families. Awesome work, Jesse!!
