Public speaking training is a lot like driver's education class. There are many rules and recommendations one can learn in class, but he or she is not deemed fully qualified to sit behind the wheel until they've driven with a trained professional. That is why public speaking classes require at least one short presentation assignment from each participant. For optimal benefit, though, it is recommended that they deliver several short presentations. Unfortunately, the part about giving actual presentations is what tends to induce panic in some potential participants. MJCooley strives to make the learning experience as stress-free as possible, promoting a learning environment that is supportive and fun, yet candidly constructive for all skill levels. Participants’ presentations will be videotaped and reviewed one-on-one with the instructor. This too tends to add an element of stress for some people, but many of the same individuals who initially express trepidation typically end up raving about how much they learned from seeing themselves on video. At the end of the course, students will keep a mini-DVD copy of their presentation to review in the future, along with a hard-bound reference book.
