There is an income threshold of $17,500 and has to be either 65 years of age or deemed with a disability by the state. The services are paid by Veteran Assistance, the Illinois Department on Aging, private pay, or insurance carriers such as Molina, Meridia, BlueCross Blue Shield, etc. The Wellness Department at Senior Services Plus offers physical therapy, personal training, virtual classes, off-site group classes, wellness center memberships, and the Rock Steady Boxing Program. The Wellness Department serves Alton and surrounding areas. Classes and membership are open to patrons 16 years of age and older. Prospective Members can sign up for membership in-person (at the Wellness Center front desk), by phone (618-465-3298 ext. 109), or online at https://bit.ly/3gAddfp.​ Memberships can be paid in full for the year. Memberships can be done in monthly payments with a one-time setup fee for the ACH of $20. We accept cash, debit card, credit card, checks, and ACH automatic bank withdrawals. SSP Wellness Center also accepts Insurance-based memberships. If your insurance supports these programs (Silver Sneakers, Renew Active, Silver and Fit, Active and Fit) speak to our front desk or call to have your membership covered. Memberships offered: Ages 15-54 - $224/year, Married Couple - $423/year, additional child ages 16-21 $25/year, Ages 55+ $174/year. School House Grill- The Nutrition Department runs the School House Grill, catering contracts, provides vending for the facility, and hosts W.O.W (Without Walls) events. The department services Madison and St. Congregate meals are free to anyone that is 60 and over with a suggested donation of $4. Home-delivered meals (MOW) are also free to anyone 60 and over and qualify through SIVNA (Southern Illinois Visiting Nurses Association) or through their insurance or private pay. Agesmart provides funds for these programs but they only pay for about half the cost of the meals. The restaurant, catering, grants (federal and state), help cover the rest of the costs. The Meals on Wheels and Transportation Department provides home-delivered meals, transportation for participants, rides for the Foster Grandparent Program volunteers, and participants 60 and over that need rides to appointments. The department serves Madison and St. Home delivered meals are also free to anyone 60 and over and qualify through SIVNA (Southern Illinois Visiting Nurses Association) or through their insurance or private pay. The Foster Grandparent Program is a program for seniors that tutor and mentor the youth in the community. The program services Madison, Macoupin, Jersey, and Clinton counties. To serve as a Foster Grandparent there is an age requirement of 55 years of age or older and income threshold cannot exceed $25,760/annually. This program is funded by AmeriCorps and the Illinois Department on Aging. Commonly used abbreviations include: Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) and AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps Seniors is formerly known as the Corporation for National Community Services (CNCS). The Senior Services Plus Handyman program services Madison and surrounding counties. For our general handyman services, there are no qualifications. Our handyman grants do come with qualifications of age, homeownership, income, and the county that they reside in. Ameren customers are the only ones that can receive free energy efficiency items. Most of our handyman clients pay privately. There are grants that are either paid by the county or a private funding source. The department is reimbursed for our Ameren installs through Ameren. The SSP LTCOP provides advocacy for any resident who lives in long-term care facilities in Madison, Bond, Clinton, Washington, St. Clair, Monroe, and Randolph counties. These facilities include nursing homes, assisted living, supported living, shelter cares, and DD homes. They do not include CILAs, Senior Independent Living communities, or state facilities. Our advocacy includes helping residents to receive care that meets their specific needs, that they are accorded the same rights as any other citizen, and to be treated with courtesy and respect. Our program is fully funded by the US government and the state of Illinois. The Information and Assistance Department works with clients in Madison County to apply for a wide range of benefit programs. These programs include: Benefit Access, Illinois Home Energy Assistance Program, Senior Health Insurance Program Counseling, Medicaid, and many more. School House Acres & Morning Bell Market: School House Acres farm focuses on growing fresh, healthy, and local produce and plants for home and garden. Morning Bell Market is our indoor store and outdoor market, providing a sales headquarters for us and a rich opportunity for other vendors. Additionally, the farm provides educational opportunities through workshops, events, tours, and more. The territory served is the greater Alton region. The farm and market serve all ages and income levels. The produce is privately purchased and some events are free of cost.
