When the Promises of God SEEM Impossible

“And the Lord said unto Joshua, see I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valor” – Joshua 6:2

God’s sheep can always identify their shepherd’s voice (John 10:4-5). Something moves in the depths of our spirit when the Lord talks to us. Yet, it seems at times that every obstacle imaginable lies in our path. We often credit the devil for the obstacles in our path; however, not all our obstacles are from Satan.

So how will we know the difference in what’s from God and what’s from Satan? Strength is built by resistance; so, anything God puts in our path will eventually make us stronger and better equip us to handle the blessings. Satan’s desire is to completely destroy the path to the promise—but we find great comfort in the book of Job.

In the book of Job, we learn that Satan can only do what the Lord permits him. This is what gave Paul confidence to write to the Roman church, “and we know all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).

The reputation of the children of Israel had spread throughout the land. Out of fear, Jericho built a wall around its city. It was so secure that no one came in and no one went out. Thankfully God opens doors no one can shut and shuts doors no one can open. God already made a way for the spies Joshua sent out to enter into the city. It was God that predestined Rahab to purchase a house that sat on the city wall. God knows what we will face before we come to it.

I can only imagine what it was like for Joshua as the Lord told him, “see, I have given into thine hand Jericho.” At the time all he could see was the obstacle that stood in his way—which was a wall. When we face situations such as this we must remember we walk by faith and not by sight. This great obstacle was moved through obedience to God and a simple shout.

Although the road to the promises of God may seem impossible to travel. Remember, God is the way. He will not promise you something that’s impossible to attain. He will not lead you down a path that’s impossible to tread. So, as he told Joshua, BE STRONG!!!
