There’s something truly special and unique about tattooing that seldom gets talked about—a kind of deep, heavy gratitude that leaves me humbled and always short on the right words. It usually ends with a ‘thank you,’ but that feels too small, too transactional, for what actually just happened.
Today I tattooed my client’s sister who flew in from Mexico—her very first time in the States, her very first tattoo.
A few hours later I tattooed my friend’s daughter on her 18th birthday, the same chair her mom sat in almost 6 years ago.
Moments like these remind me, in the clearest way possible, what a ridiculous privilege it is to do this for a living.
We don’t just get to make art.
We get invited into people’s milestones, migrations, coming-of-age stories, and family histories...
