In the Reptile House, guests can once again see one of the most eye-catching fanged fashionistas in the Viperidae family: the eyelash viper! This species is on the smaller side, typically ranging from 22 to 32 inches long, and makes their home in the trees of Columbia. They come in a wide variety of striking color combinations and patterns, and are well-known for the namesake brow ridge made of modified spiked scales that resemble eyelashes.
This lovely female was born at the ABQ BioPark in 2014. Fun fact: like many vipers, they are ovoviviparous which means that the female doesn't lay her eggs, but incubates them internally and has a live "birth"! A clutch can be between 2 to 20 babies, about 6 inches long.
