After more than two decades in the United States as a professional, award-winning collaborative pianist, Maki Kimura I Japanese Calligrapher I 感靜 Kan-sei decided to pursue a career in calligraphy. She founded KAN-SEI, a company dedicated to showcasing her calligraphy. "WESST believed my work had the potential to become a real business, and their guidance gave me confidence as I entered a completely new field," says Maki.

Maki was selected as one of The Harwood Art Center's SURFACE: Emerging Artists of New Mexico in 2026. She has been featured in their ongoing exhibition since June, and the show concludes this Saturday, July 25th. Stop by, see her art, and learn about other emerging artists.
