🏡 Myth or Fact?
Myth or Fact: After buying your first home, there’s nothing else you need to do with the Bernalillo County Assessor’s Office.
❌ Myth!
Congratulations on becoming a homeowner! 🎉 There are a few important steps you should take to help ensure your property records are accurate and you don’t miss out on potential benefits.
Here are 3 things every first-time homeowner should do:
✅ 1. Apply for any exemptions you may qualify for.
Programs like the Head of Family Exemption or certain veteran exemptions may help reduce your property taxes if you’re eligible.
✅ 2. Verify your mailing address.
Make sure the Assessor’s Office has your current mailing address so you receive your Notice of Value and other important property related information.
✅ 3. Review your property information.
Take a few minutes to confirm that details such as your property’s size, features, and ownership information are accurate.
Buying your first home is an exciting milestone, and we’re here to help you every step of the way!
