True independence means safety and autonomy, free from violence.

Freedom looks like your safety and healing not being decided by the language you speak, the color of your skin, or where you live. Freedom looks like all survivors and their communities having the rights, opportunities, and resources they need to thrive.

Today as we reflect on our history and what freedom means, we also remember that Indigenous tribes, nations, and people have lived on this land much longer than 250 years. As we look forward, we are committed to continuing to building a future where freedom isn't conditional and justice is accessible to everyone.

Last week we joined together with preventionists from across New Mexico for our Quarterly Prevention Meeting to learn, share, and connect!

We know that everyone has a role to playing in ending violence, which is why prevention work doesn't just happen in classrooms. Local communities already have the wisdom, passion, and solutions for preventing harm. Our role is to empower them with tools and resources.

Huge thank you to Krysta Montez with La Piñon Sars for diving into how her and her team have creatively engaged their communities and built meaningful partnerships with local businesses!
