We started working with Albuquerque Public Schools in 2001, teaching students all over the city about cooking and eating foods with variety and moderation. At present, we teach tasting and cooking lessons during the school day in 12 elementary schools within APS and Bernalillo Public Schools. Here are a few family-friendly things to check out this week around Albuquerque. Early Childhood Bilingual Storytime: Tuesday, July 21 at 10 AM at NHCC’s HLA Library. Africa Family Night: Tuesday, July 21 from 5:30 to 8:30 PM at the ABQ BioPark Zoo. Lavender in the Village: Saturday, July 25 from 8 AM to 3 PM at Balloon Fiesta Park. Stories, animals, lavender, food, and local vendors all in one week.

Kids Cook! will be back at Blue Door Neighborhood Center on Monday, August 3 from 1:00 to 2:30 PM, and we’d love to cook with you. This free family-friendly class brings together hands-on cooking, nutrition, and health in a welcoming community space. Families will make food together, try something new, and build real kitchen confidence along the way. Sign up on our website.

First Friday Night is one of our favorite ways to cook with families outside the school day. On Friday, July 10, we’ll be making Mushroom Burgers, Sweet Potato Hash, and Flatbread together at the Indian Pueblo Entrepreneur Complex from 5:00 to 6:30 PM.
