Silkie The Legendary Dark
by aka Silabh Liag Distillers, Carrick, Co Donegal, Ireland. Style: Blended Irish Whiskey. Strength: 46 % ABV, No Age Statement.
đAppearance: Copper hues with Irish golden emeralds along the glass and heavy viscosity
đđ˝Nose: Sliced pears, apples and ginger soaked in lemon juice, suede leather, smoked brisket, sweet BBQ sauce, sugar cookie, and white pepper
đ
Taste: Smoked burnt ends, white pepper, more pears, apples and ginger, savory minerality, soft leather, and a light brown sugar sweetness.
đFinish: A soft welcoming of smoke and lingering salt & pepper. The fruit notes drop off too quick for my liking, yet theyâre noticeable enough to still enjoy their subtlety.
đ¤Thoughts & Conclusions: Iâm a big fan of peated whisk(e)y in general and prefer to get all the smoke! I usually have friends over who arenât as big a fan of the peated stuff but I still do my best to convert them with something that isnât so agro. This is one of the bottles I think of to initiate them into the conversation. Itâs soft smokey character balanced with orchard fruits help them through the door in my opinion. How do I know? Because Iâve had success with peated Irish whiskeys in the past and the one thing I tend to hear is âMmm thatâs not bad at allâŚâ Yes, yes, you want more donât you? Hmm Mmmm (I chuckle in that Dracula kinda way). I donât mean to turn this into dark theatre, but after all this is the âLegendary Dark,â so why not?!?! For the value and availability, this expression is a no-brainer. I recommend this dram for the âWhiskey Noviceâ, someone whoâs looking for a gateway to peated juice đĽđ¨ This is a blend of double and triple distilled single malts with soft grain whiskey. Lot 210511.
