Albany Common Council
In accordance with the City Charter, Albany is divided into fifteen (15) legislative districts, or Wards. Each Ward is represented by a City resident who is elected by their constituency to serve a four-year term. Collectively the elected Ward representatives comprise the Common Council, which serves as the legislative branch of Albany’s government. Each Common Council Member functions to regulate

The Albany Common Council was recently made aware that invoices may be circulating featuring the Common Council’s logo. These are not distributed by the Common Council or Common Council-affiliated boards or commissions and the Common Council does not send out invoices of any kind.
If you receive an invoice featuring the Common Council’s logo, please disregard it. If you are a victim of the scam, please call the Albany Police Department’s non-emergency line: (518) 462-8013.
If you receive a communication from the Common Council or any other document with our logo, please keep an eye out for the following red flags:
- Payment is being request
- Off-center and/or fuzzy graphics
- Questionable addresses or organization names
