“Thanksgiving is about trying to come to terms with this very difficult truth about the United States,” according to the National Museum of the American Indian’s curator Paul Chaat Smith (Comanche). “The country is a national project that came about to great expense to Native people...but Native people and African Slavery, those two things together, are huge challenges to how you process this...We like that story of the meal at Plymouth that happened a long, long time ago.”
Today we honor Native People of the Americas. And understand that it mirrors the experience of indigenous people everywhere. And we’d also like to wish you a day of communication, community and connection as well. LET US KNOW in the comments what you are doing today. .
