We couldn't have said it better ourselves.

Walkable Albany is right- cities work best when they are filled with people and buildings, not when they are carved up by highways to get drivers away faster.

Urge DOT to use this once-in-a-lifetime redesign opportunity to think transformationally, not maintain the status quo at the link below.

Can you spot the difference?

We can't.

The Exit 6 interchange is designed for cars, not for people. We cannot afford to continue cutting residents off from our river, building infrastructure that is hostile to anyone not in a car, and making investments in the mistakes we made decades ago.

Tell DOT to lower the Dunn Memorial Bridge and keep interchanges out of our city at the link below.

We need to be done with the Dunn as we know it.

Lowering the Dunn Memorial Bridge just makes sense. If lowered or relocated south near the Port of Albany, none of the roads downtown will need to be elevated, as many of NYSDOT's Reimagining I-787 concepts show.

Mike Franchini, former Executive Director of the Capital Region Transportation Council, shares his thoughts on why Lowering the Dunn makes sense.

What do you think?

Let's build a city for everyone!

As the NYSDOT Reimagine I-787 begins to wind down, it's more important now than ever to make your voice heard. Our Albany Reimagined concept has sought to take what DOT has said is possible and create a design that will benefit us all. Below are some suggested comments to provide DOT, let's get this done together!

-Minimize barriers for people (no elevated structures)
-Maximize access to the river.
-Make the Dunn Memorial pedestrian friendly bridge by making it a lift bridge.
-Incorporate complete street design principles.
-Make 787 an at grade boulevard.
-No cloverleaf designs downtown.
-Designate 787 as a state road.
-Incorporate mass transit options.
-Relocate the 1 RR track north of the port.
Note: they got rid of at least 6 RR tracks when it was built.

Let's make history together!

The Albany Riverfront Collaborative has for the past three years sought to gather robust public feedback from those who have been most impacted by I-787’s construction and continued existence, and our Albany Reimagined design has sought to turn your comments into reality. We hope that this design bolsters community conversations around the future of our city, forges new connections between Albany’s neighborhoods with each other and with the Hudson River, and can serve as a guide for what an equitable, sustainable, and transformative Albany and Rensselaer can look like. As we’ve always said - “Together, we can!"
