The Deluge speaks directly to those who have experienced the boarding school system and recognizes their pain. With the help of Ancestors, Miss Chief rescues Indigenous children from the allegorical flood of displacement by settler cultures and returns them to their families. It is a testament to true leadership of those who fought for the children’s return and continue the fight to uncover the true extent of the atrocities experienced and to return the protection of children to the authority of Indigenous nations.

Kent Monkman: History is Painted by the Victors is on view now at the Akron Art Museum through August 16, 2026. The Akron Art Museum is open Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 12-5pm, and Thursdays from 12-9pm.

This Thursday, June 18, is the FREE Heinz Poll Summer Dance Festival Preview with Ohio Contemporary Ballet from 6:30-8:30pm.

Ohio Contemporary Ballet is a Northeast Ohio–based professional company known for bold, contemporary works and collaborations. The evening includes short dance vignettes and Q&A with the artists. Sponsored by the City of Akron.
