The Rubber House - by Tom Pritchard

e home, it was built in 1983 for famous choreographer Eugene Loring. Loring was retiring from Hollywood to the Catskills and giving up his Richard Neutra home in the Hollywood Hills. His directive to Pritchard was simple “I’ve lived in a work of art for many years. Now I want to live in another work of art but a very different one.” It’s hard to imagine anything more different from the horizontal white sleekness of Neutra than The Rubber House. Featured in many magazine and news articles when it was new, it reemerged in recent years due to it being owned by actor Willem Dafoe. Dafoe's decision to sell the house spawned a new crop of news and magazine articles and discussion on many blogs devoted to architecture. The House’s new owners share it with artists and creatives from all over the world, allowing people the opportunity to inhabit and appreciate The Rubber House

We are working with the new owners on some updates to the house. We have photographs of the original construction. as well as photos showing how it has changed over the years and will add them slowly as they are scanned.
