The first of a pair, this piece is an example of zoomorphic Islamic calligraphy—an art form where written script transforms into living shapes. Here, the text becomes a whirling dervish, a Sufi practitioner engaged in the sacred spinning meditation known as Sema. Islamic calligraphy dates back to the late seventh century, and is deeply rooted in the Arabic alphabet and the Quran, with verses often serving as the text of these designs. We’ve archivally presented this piece in a purple beveled wood profile from Larson Juhl, green mat by Crescent Brands with a painted bevel, and TruVue 99% UV filtering and anti reflective “Museum” glass.

This is a signed concert poster for Kurt Vile and the Violators’ performance at The Met Philly on December 29th, 2018. Vile is a singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist, known for his solo work with his backing band, the Violators, and as the former lead guitarist for the rock band, the War on Drugs. This concert poster was designed by Grammy-nominated musician and artist Perry Shall. We’ve archivally presented this piece in a black lacquered wood profile from Studio Moulding with TruVue 99% UV filtering and shatter resistant “Conservation” acrylic.
