Can I use painkillers to ease my menstrual cramps?
Yes, you can use painkillers to ease menstrual cramps. Abdominal cramping during menstruation can be mild, moderate or severe. The form or severity of pain may not be constant for all the episodes of menstruation; sometimes it can be mild and other times severely painful.
Mild menstrual cramps usually require no painkiller. A combination of exercise, rest, and warm compresses can relieve it. However, in moderate to severe pain, you may benefit from a Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDS) such as ibuprofen, diclofenac, piroxicam etc can be helpful.
Use of painkillers does not have an effect on your uterus or reproductive health. However, defer from NSAIDS if you have recent history of peptic ulcer disease. Paracetamol is safer for you if you have recent peptic ulcer disease history.
