The Matatu Film Lab is currently underway in Zanzibar at the Emerson Zanzibar Foundation. 🌴🎬

This is an intensive, hands-on creative bootcamp designed to support and upskill filmmakers based in Zanzibar. Over the course of five focused days, participants are given the tools, mentorship, and space to explore documentary storytelling rooted in their own lived realities and communities. 🌍πŸŽ₯

The challenge is ambitious. In just five days, the filmmakers are working to develop, shoot, edit, and present three short documentary films, taking each project from concept to screen. πŸ”₯🎞️
This edition serves as a pilot for a much bigger vision. One that is centered on strengthening creative skills, growing confidence, and contributing meaningfully to the creative economy by opening up real opportunities for filmmakers on the ground.

The is a Film Possible initiative dedicated to nurturing and amplifying African cinema through holistic, hands-on filmmaking training across the continent. We believe that when filmmakers are supported locally, with the right resources and trust in their voices, powerful stories emerge.

This Zanzibar Edition is made possible with the support of Emerson Zanzibar Foundation, Emerson Zanzibar, Salme Museum, Zanzibar Film Producers Guild and it couldnt happen without the amazing Salma Adim.

More to share soon as the films take shape.
