Hydrogeological survey/ Siting

Satellite image, borehole logs, survey profiles, vertical electrical soundings, topographic and soil maps of the area will be obtained and studied before the field trip. During the actual hydro-geological surveys, two geophysical equipment will be employed; WADI which employs the use of very low frequency (VLF) waves for the location of the fractures in the rocks and the terrameter that measures the resistivities of the rocks at different depths.

The use of the two instruments increases the accuracy and quality of the measurements making it possible to hit wells with yields in excess of 500ltrs /hr that can in future be motorised. GPS readings of the chosen borehole sites will be recorded. Special attention will be given to areas where the greatest number of dry and low yielding boreholes is usually encountered.

Here the precise location of resistivity anomalies method (PLRA) will be employed to locate the borehole fractures. The
method involves shortening the profile stations over the best anomalies so as to exactly locate the fracture point.
