In a small school in the heart of Entebbe Oliva sits on the veranda with a plate of posho on her lap. She is looking at the cooks house, dreaming of the day she will own her own restaurant. Her dream is simple but it will be near impossible to accomplish because Oliva has a disability called Down Syndrome and in Uganda her disability leaves her excluded. People believe she is helpless. We are heartily saddened by the passing of our cherished & hard working disability advocate COUNCILLOR MODESTA TEZIKYABBILI. For years in Entebbe, she has defied odds to stand with every person with a disability, their family and pushing to better the lives of the underprivileged that knocked on her door!

She has been a vocal power house in advocating for the rights of persons with disability in Entebbe, a stance that she later conjoined with active leadership as a channel to air grievances straight to the responsible stakeholders. She was serving as the Speaker for the Entebbe Division Council at the time of her demise.

Not only was she vocal at advocacy but one whom many parents of children with intellectual disabilities knew as a woman of actions. She always had solutions.

We always Joked with her at how despite being under-resourced, we can always do as much as a community even by merely changing perceptions people have on disabilities.
We shall deeply miss your positive energy, your consistent dedication to stir change.

Your legacy will surely live on through the lives of the children and young adults that you have changed and given a purpose.

Rest in Power, Councillor MODESTA
