, This Catalan Premiere, this Spanish premiere was more than just an event.

I commend you, Maria for such beautiful and brilliant programs at Docs like having Barcelona directors moderate Q&As for visiting directors, as well as having a team that takes care of our schedules and daily reminders. I’ve met such wonderful humans that are already a part of my life now. My sincerest gratitude to Paloma and Maria. 🙏🏾

This city and this festival are so charming. If anyone had told 20-year-old me sitting under reading lights obsessing over Orwell’s Homage to Catalonia, and imagining this revolutionary city -that one day she’d have her film there with Catalan subtitles -she’d have laughed in their face. What a beautiful place. What an omen.

A long time ago I asked a mentor of mine how long it would take to have people believe in what I do so much that they’d show up. They told me that all it took was to start with your family. As long as your family starts showing up, that’s all you need. I thought it’d take forever to explain to my family how to show up for my work. But turns out people don’t need explanations when they love you.

As complications with traveling go, I couldn’t attend some festivals recently. At , my baby brother who lives in Toronto canceled work and school for the days of the screenings so he’d attend and provide company for our co-producer who made it there. Thank you so much, mwaana wa maawe.

My in-laws drove all the way from across the border to join my brother and show up for our film. Thank you and Dan Wilmot for being such incredibly supportive parents.
