The role of e-commerce has shifted in the post-pandemic world from being a standalone sales phenomenon to being a part of consumers' overall shopping experience. Although online shopping is convenient and has seen significant growth, the majority of retail sales still occur in brick-and-mortar stores, which remain the primary point of purchase for consumers.
However, the role of physical stores has evolved, and consumers now expect a seamless experience between online and in-store shopping. They want to be able to buy online and return in-store, and vice versa, which is why retailers that offer both in-store and online options are preferred.
This trend towards omnichannel retail is supported by a survey, which found that 56% of adults prefer to shop both online and in-store, and 88% believe it's important for businesses to offer both options. The study also revealed that 24% of consumers are less likely to purchase from a business that only has an online presence and no physical storefront.
