Dog fighting was especially developed in the city of Kochi. The dogs fought in the fence until one of the dogs began to bark, squeal, or lose the will to fight. The owners had the right to throw in the towel to stop the match. Draws usually occur if both dogs stop fighting or the time limit is reached. The champion dog was called yokozuna, as in sumo. In modern times, despite animal protection laws, dog fighting is not illegal in Japan, with the exception of Tokyo. Most of the fighting dogs in Japan are the Tosa Inu (Japanese Mastiff), a special breed bred in Kochi.

Dog fighting has been popular in many countries throughout history and is still practiced both legally and illegally throughout the world.

Pakistan and Afghanistan
Although illegal, due to the lack of police attention, fights are regularly held here. The most common fighting breed in these areas is known as the Bulli Kutta or Pakistani Mastiff. Asian and Caucasian Shepherd Dogs are also used.

The main breeds that are used for dog fighting are the American Pit Bull Terrier, Irish Staffordshire Bull Terrier, English Bull Terrier, English Sport Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Presa Canario, Bully Kutta, Central Asian Shepherd Dog and Caucasian Shepherd Dog, Japanese Tosa Inu and large terrier breeds. And the most popular fighting breed in the world is the American Pit Bull Terrier.
