Many climbers think reaching Lava Tower is the hardest part of the day.But the real purpose of this section on Mount Kilimanjaro is acclimatization.

Here’s what most climbers don’t know:
1️⃣ You climb high on purpose
At about 4600m, Lava Tower is one of the highest points reached before summit night.

2️⃣ Then you go down again
After Lava Tower, climbers descend to Barranco Camp to sleep lower.

3️⃣ This improves summit success
The strategy is called “climb high, sleep low.”
It helps your body adapt to altitude before the summit push.

4️⃣ Many climbers feel altitude here
Mild headache or fatigue can happen , that’s why guides monitor everyone closely.
