除此之外，James還是一位著名的慈善家，支持科學研究、教育和自閉症倡導。他成立的西蒙斯基金會，資助領域包括數學、理論物理和生命科學的研究。

James Harris Simons was born in 1938 and is a well-known mathematician and hedge fund manager. Even people might not heard of James, but they must know Renaissance Technologies, one of the world-renowned and most successful quantitative hedge funds which he founded.

James received his PhD in mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1961 and has made significant contributions in geometry and topology. Such as Chern-Simons, which is widely used in theoretical physics and mathematics.

In 1982, James founded Renaissance Technologies, a hedge fund that used mathematical models to analyze and trade in financial markets. Under his guidance, he made Renaissance one of the most successful hedge funds. Its most well-known flagship fund, the Medallion Fund, has created extremely high returns for investors.

In addition, James is also a well-known philanthropist who supports scientific research, education and autism advocacy. The Simons Foundation he established offers funding support in areas including mathematics, theoretical physics and life sciences.

Though James passed away in 2024, his achievements and contributions have had a profound impact on mathematics, finance, and philanthropy. Which made him undoubtedly a great man of the time and will always be remembered.
