Yedikule Fortress was built in the 5th century as part of the Byzantine city walls of Constantinople. After the Ottoman conquest of the city in 1453, Sultan Mehmed II transformed it into a fortress and state treasury. Over time, it was also used as a prison for important political prisoners and foreign ambassadors.

Today, Yedikule Fortress is one of Istanbul’s historic landmarks, offering visitors a glimpse into the city’s Byzantine and Ottoman past along with impressive views of the ancient walls.
