Defne Cemal completed an artist residency at Hangar, Lisbon, throughout March.

“At Hangar Studios, I made a zine composed of fragments of the city and moments of light and color that I could find. I was looking for a way outside of my usual way of working—to invite curiosity back in. Being there across March, I experienced the city’s transition from winter to summer.

Lisbon is intensely bright—the sun reflects off the Atlantic in a blinding way, and the white marble sidewalks make it almost impossible to see. The light returns from the ocean into the air, creating a hazy cityscape. The environment shapes and transforms the city; paints fade under the sun and salt air.

There is always this sense of being between appearance and disappearance, something I often think about in my visual language—of being in constant transition. During this time, I began making small-scale watercolors, a selection of which I paired with photographs I took.

What I do is perhaps not finding form, but allowing forms to appear and disappear simultaneously, reflecting this shifting perception.

Setting something up, bringing it into balance, and then letting it soften slightly—the surface is not just an image, but a movement unfolding within its layers.”

OG Gallery is pleased to announce the publication of Ahmet Civelek’s first book, "Slippage".

Conceived as a visual and conceptual extension of the artist’s recent body of work, "Slippage" brings together field notes, essays, and a long-form conversation that traces Civelek’s engagement with yağlı güreş (oil wrestling).

The book, which includes a text by Michael Bank Christoffersen and an interview with Dave Harper, uses oil wrestling as a framework to examine masculinity, failure, and identity, approaching physical struggle as a space where vulnerability, tradition, and cultural meaning intersect.

Developed through encounters in wrestling fields across Turkey, the publication moves between observation and reflection, bringing together text and image around the body, performance, and lived experience. Rather than treating wrestling purely as a sport, Civelek considers it as a site where personal and collective narratives take shape.

"Slippage" is presented in conjunction with Civelek’s ongoing practice, extending his research into a published format.

Slippage is presented in the exhibition Vanilla, Grass, Almond, curated by .rf . The exhibition brings together 24 artists revisiting their previous publications and making contemporary interventions, transforming the book-object into a living form. The exhibition takes its name from the vanilla, grass, and almond notes that emerge as paper, ink, and binding materials age. Referencing the concept of bibliosmia, these scents, developing and relating over time, are interpreted not only as a physical process but also as a reflection of the artists’ memories and experiences.

OG Gallery, Istanbul, is pleased to announce its participation in Unseen Photo 2026 , presenting a duo booth by Bülent Özgören and Eren Göktürk between 25th and 29th of March at Booth C13.

Together, Özgören and Göktürk embody photography’s duality as document and artifice. Though aesthetically divergent, both share a devotion to light—Özgören revealing landscapes in sublime clarity, Göktürk crafting scenes of heightened imagination. Presented side by side, their practices trace a continuum from the classic to the contemporary, offering visitors an encounter with two distinct yet complementary voices that bridge generations.

ARCO Madrid 26 is open until Sunday, 8th of March.
Defne Cemal’s presents her new series at opening section 9OP04. To enhance the shadow play created by the bent aluminum curves, the artist has applied tints of paint only subtly visible from the sides. Resulting in a very carefully layered installation.

OG Gallery, Istanbul, is pleased to announce its participation in ARCO Madrid 2026 , presenting a solo booth by Defne Cemal .cemal between 4th and 8th of March at Opening: New Galleries Booth 9OP04.

Defne Cemal (b. 1997, Istanbul) is a painter reconsidering the conditions of abstraction today. Working between painting and object, she continually challenges the stability of the pictorial plane — shifting from folds to curves to increasingly complex spatial interventions that destabilise the canvas as a fixed surface.
