Full Campaign Report : Canada by Placid Angles / John Beltran.
Pitchfork : “The Ann Arbor producer dusts off an alias he used on a 1996 ambient-techno classic and gives his jazzy, atmospheric dance music a jolt of fresh energy”
Herb Sundays : “The oeuvre of John Beltran is miles wide, though he takes up precious little space on the usual lists or amongst the Techno gossip mill. Or, better put by Shawn Reynaldo: “The history of Midwestern dance music is littered with unheralded figures and under-celebrated heroes, and while John Beltran hasn’t exactly toiled in obscurity during the past 30 years, it does seem bizarre that his music continues to be something of a niche concern.”
Tone Glow : “Beltran might be one of Michigan’s most overlooked producers, but Canada is another essential entry in his archive.“
Ban Ban Ton Ton : “John Beltran’s latest long-player as Placid Angles was promo’d last year with the title track Canada. This seemed to be a very respectful nod toward 90s “ambient” Aphex Twin, and in the press release Beltran stated that the album was intentionally a nostalgic “peak” into his own pioneering back catalogue, and those of his contemporaries. This statement is borne out by the rest of the record.”

“On his first record for an outside label in seven years, Batu delivers a decisive statement on his recent focus on hypermodern club music with a distinctly UK streak. Question Mark heralds the launch of Lethal Press, a boutique sister-label to Istanbul-based Oath focused on exclusive releases from landmark artists.
There’s a dembow lean to ‘Clump’ as it comfortably rolls along around the 100BPM mark, all the better to hear every infinitesimal modulation of the undulating low frequency lead, the steely swell of textural layering and the crystalline crack of the drums.“
