Freudenberg, Almanya’nın Kuzey Ren-Vestfalya eyaletinde yer alan ve tarihî dokusunu büyük ölçüde koruyan yerleşimlerden biri olarak öne çıkıyor. Kentin en bilinen bölgesi olan “Alter Flecken”, siyah renkli ahşap karkas sistemler ve beyaz dolgulu cephelerden oluşan geleneksel yarı ahşap yapı düzeniyle tanımlanıyor.

Özellikle 17. yüzyılda yaşanan büyük yangının ardından yeniden inşa edilen yapı stoğu, ortak çatı eğimleri, ritmik cephe düzeni ve bütüncül sokak siluetiyle dikkat çekiyor. Doğal topoğrafya ile birlikte gelişen yerleşim dokusu, kamusal alanlar ve konut ölçeği arasında dengeli bir ilişki kuruyor.

Freudenberg stands out as one of the settlements in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia that has largely preserved its historic character. The city’s most famous district, “Alter Flecken,” is characterized by its traditional half-timbered architecture, featuring black wooden frameworks and white-stuccoed facades.

The building stock, rebuilt following a major fire in the 17th century, draws attention with its uniform roof pitches, rhythmic facade patterns, and cohesive street silhouette. The settlement’s fabric, which has evolved in harmony with the natural topography, establishes a balanced relationship between public spaces and residential scale.

Gökyüzüne açılan boşluk: Shining Hat Expo Hall

Toyo Ito imzalı Shining Hat Expo Hall, Expo 2025 Osaka kapsamında gökyüzüne açılan dev bir boşluk fikri üzerinden kurgulanıyor. Yaklaşık 2 bin kişilik ana oditoryum, altın renkli dairesel çatısı ve ışığı yansıtan yüzeyiyle, mimariyi optik bir deneyime dönüştüren kamusal bir sahne oluşturuyor.

Hafif çelik strüktür sayesinde geniş açıklıklar kesintisiz biçimde geçilirken, beyaz tekstil yüzeylerle çevrelenen iç mekân; ışık, yansıma ve hacim ilişkisini öne çıkaran akışkan bir atmosfer sunuyor. Yapının merkezindeki geniş oculus açıklığı ise gün ışığını doğrudan iç mekâna taşıyarak gökyüzü ile mimari arasında sürekli değişen bir ilişki tanımlıyor.

A space opening up to the sky: Shining Hat Expo Hall

Designed by Toyo Ito, the Shining Hat Expo Hall is conceived around the idea of a massive void opening up to the sky as part of Expo 2025 Osaka. The main auditorium, which seats approximately 2,000 people, features a golden circular roof and light-reflecting surfaces, creating a public stage that transforms architecture into an optical experience.

Thanks to a lightweight steel structure, wide spans are spanned seamlessly, while the interior—enclosed by white textile surfaces—offers a fluid atmosphere that highlights the interplay of light, reflection, and volume. The large oculus opening at the building’s center brings natural light directly into the interior, defining a constantly evolving relationship between the sky and the architecture.
