We are so happy to invite you to The Story Won't Die for the very first time in the cinema in Turkey - .

This Saturday, 29 April, at 3pm in the French Cultural Institute in Istanbul.

from Award-winning filmmaker David Henry Gerson produced by Sundance Award-winner Odessa Rae (Navalny)، is an inspiring, timely look at a creative young generation of Syrian artists, using their work to protest and process the aftermath of what is currently the world’s largest and longest displacement of people since World War II.

"القصة لن تموت" ، للمخرج ديفيد هنري جيرسون، من إنتاج أوديسا راي (نافالني) الحائزة على جائزة صندانس. يضيء الفيلم على قصص جيل شاب مبدع من الفنانين السوريين ممن استخدموا أعمالهم كوسيلة للاحتجاج في أعقاب ما يعد حاليًا أكبر وأطول نزوح لشعب في العالم منذ الحرب العالمية الثانية.

“Reframing Narratives on Migration” panel organized by The Silent University in coordination with Migration Jam at SAHA Studio on 10 December 2022 at 2 pm (GMT+3). Learn more about the panelists, moderator, and our special guest!👇

Panelists:
🟣 Yeşim Hancı-Kaya - Ph.D. student at Columbia University.
Yesim is undertaking her Ph.D. in Comparative International Education and Sociology at Columbia University Teachers College, with a Fulbright scholarship. Her dissertation research focuses on the role of teachers in promoting social cohesion through the inclusion of refugee students in Turkey.
🟣 Gülşah Kurt - UNSW Post-doctoral Research Fellow.
Gülşah Kurt is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia. Her current research focuses on the resilience and well-being of asylum-seeking communities in low and middle-income countries and high-income countries. She is an advocate of participatory research and the use of research as a way to empower disadvantaged communities.
🟣 Leyla Savsar - An assistant professor at Istinye University.
An assistant professor at Istinye University, Leyla Savsar holds a Master's (MEd) degree from Boston University and a Ph.D. in English Literature Rhetoric from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Binghamton. Her research focus is on immigrant narratives (especially that of children and women), postcolonial studies, and the power of storytelling in fostering empathy towards the marginalized. “Moments of Being and Becoming” is her first published compilation of poetry. Her research interests include, but are not limited to, identity/assimilation, diaspora, racial melancholia, and memory in Transnational Literature and Children’s Literature.

Moderator:
🟣 Esma Güzin Yarıcı - Master student Sabanci University.
Esma graduated from Galatasaray University with a sociology degree in 2020, then continued her studies within the academia at Sabanci University in Cultural Studies program. Her main motivation to pursue studies in this field comes from her enthusiasm for building bridges between academia and activism through a feminist lens.

Special guest:
🟣 Janis Janowsky - Strategic Director of INSMS
Janis has an academic background in Migration Studies and currently works for the ReDI School of Digital Integration as a Career Partnerships Manager. He has supported the creation and development of the International Network for Students of Migration Studies and still supports the organization’s work as Strategic Director. He is always interested in conversations around diversity and believes that positive change can be achieved by building coalitions.

This panel aims to trigger proactive dialogues between academicians, artists, and active individuals to exchange knowledge and suggest solutions.
