Did you know?
30 years ago, a simple innovation of a nutritious peanut paste, called ready-to-use-therapeutic food (RUTF), changed how we treat severe malnutrition, and it’s still saving lives today!

UNICEF and the Ministry of Health Palácio das Cinzas provide RUTF to around 1,500–3,500 children each year, especially in remote areas. Together, we ensure services reach children quickly -when they need it most.

Too many children are still identified late. Scaling up active case finding and early detection, while strengthening prevention, is essential for timely treatment and better outcomes.

The Government of Timor-Leste, with support from the Republic of Korea through the Korea International Cooperation Agency KOICA Timor-Leste Office (KOICA 동티모르사무소) and UNICEF, received the handover of solar power systems and upgraded WASH facilities on 29 April 2026. This has enabled children and communities to access health care, education, and safe water more reliably, despite the challenges posed by climate change.
