ATT 19 presents Objects of Dwelling: Japanese Craft, Ritual, and Space

Bringing together a considered selection of Japanese objects, the exhibition explores how craft, image, and material presence shape the experience of interior space. From byōbu and lacquered screens to hanakago, bronze works, kokeshi, carved cork landscapes, and kakemono, each form reflects a relationship between placement, ritual, and lived environment.

Across traditions of display, seasonal gesture, light, and contemplation, the works reveal how objects move beyond function to become active elements within the language of dwelling.

ATT 19 is proud to collaborate with Okinawa Prefectural Government Singapore Representative Office .go in presenting a curated showcase of some of the region’s most renowned traditional crafts.

Okinawa—Japan’s southernmost islands—was once known as the Ryukyu Kingdom, a thriving maritime hub connecting China, Japan, and Southeast Asia. Centuries of exchange shaped a unique identity rooted in cultural fusion, local wisdom, and deep harmony with nature.

Today, 16 Okinawan crafts are officially recognized as Traditional Japanese Crafts. Each piece reflects simplicity, meaning, and a living dialogue between history, environment, and community. Through these works, we are invited to understand Okinawa’s past, identity, and way of life.

Special programme: Lacquer artist will be in the space for a meet & greet from 6–8 February.

Exhibition dates: 29 January – 1 March 2026
