Building on the Forest Giants Project, Forest Tales is an initiative where underrepresented groups in wildlife conservation, such as women from rural areas, come together to work on gender equality, education, and the conservation of overlooked species.
PT/EN | Este ano lançámos a iniciativa Contos da Floresta, com o objetivo de promover a reflexão e ação em torno da conservação e da igualdade de género.
No âmbito deste projeto, realizamos um atelier de lançamento onde entidades governamentais e ONGs que trabalham em questões ambientais, assim como organizações focadas em igualdade de género, uniram-se para partilhar conhecimento.
Agradecemos a todos os participantes pelas suas valiosas contribuições, conselhos e discussões enriquecedoras. Este foi um importante momento de reflexão conjunta, que permitiu identificar estratégias para implementar eficazmente esta iniciativa e reduzir as desigualdades existentes 💁🏾♀️💪🏽

This year, we launched the “Forest Tales” initiative, with the aim of promoting reflection and action around conservation and gender equality.
As part of this project, we held a workshop where government entities and NGOs working on environmental issues, as well as organizations focused on gender equality, came together to share knowledge.
We thank all participants for their valuable contributions, advice, and enriching discussions. This was an important moment of collective reflection, which made it possible to identify strategies to effectively implement this initiative and reduce existing inequalities 💁🏾♀️💪🏽

PT/EN | Neste Dia da Terra, desejamos que as vozes das mulheres na conservação deixem de ser exceção e passem a ser uma força visível e valorizada na forma como compreendemos e protegemos a biodiversidade 🌿♀️
Desejamos que os desafios de ser mulher nesta área não sejam silenciados, mas reconhecidos, partilhados e transformados em caminhos de mudança.
Desejamos que as espécies que raramente notamos, as discretas, as ignoradas, as sem nome, recebam a mesma atenção que as mais icónicas, porque cada forma de vida tem um papel essencial no equilíbrio dos ecossistemas.
Desejamos um futuro em São Tomé e Príncipe onde a conservação seja mais inclusiva, e onde aquilo que escolhemos ver, ouvir e valorizar hoje se torne aquilo que protegemos amanhã.

On this Earth Day, we wish that the voices of women in conservation are no longer the exception, but a visible and valued force shaping how we understand and protect biodiversity 🌿♀️
We wish that the challenges of being a woman in this field are not silenced, but acknowledged, shared, and transformed into pathways for change.
We wish that the species we rarely notice — the quiet, the overlooked, the unnamed — are given the same attention as the iconic ones, because every form of life holds meaning in the balance of ecosystems.
We wish for a future in São Tomé and Príncipe where conservation is more inclusive, and where what we choose to see, listen to, and uplift today becomes what we protect tomorrow.
