Juba, 10 July, 2026 - The Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, H.E. Gen. Charles Madut Akol, on Friday joined hundreds of football fans at the grand finale of the Aweil Counties’ Tournament in Buluk, Juba, where Aweil East County emerged as champions.

Interior Minister Gen.Aleu Holds Bilateral talks with Ethiopian Ambassador in Juba
South Sudan's Minister of Interior, Gen. Aleu Ayieny Aleu, on Friday held bilateral talks with Ethiopian Ambassador to South Sudan, Delil Kadir, in Juba on strengthening border relations, security, and bilateral cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
According to the two officials reaffirmed two countries commitment to maintaining long-standing peaceful coexistence and historic ties between South Sudan and Ethiopia. Ambassador Delil said Ethiopia remains committed to preserving the strong political and economic relationship between the two nations.
Gen. Aleu described Ethiopia as "father of South Sudan " that supported South Sudan during its liberation struggle and appreciated the Ethiopian government's continued contributions to the country's health, business, and other development sectors.

Yei, 10 July 2026 - The Commissioner of Yei River County, Hon. Samuel Henry Malimbo, and the Commissioner of Lainya County, Hon. Huda Michael Laila, on Friday joined hundreds of mourners during the funeral service of the late South Sudan People's Defence Forces (SSPDF) Captain Isaac Logu Gaitano, who was killed in an ambush along the Yei–Kaya Road on 26 April 2026 while travelling to Yei.
The funeral brought together family members, government officials, security personnel, religious leaders, friends and members of the public to pay their final respects to the late army officer.
Addressing mourners, Commissioner Samuel Henry Malimbo described the late Captain Logu Gaitano as a disciplined and dedicated officer with whom he had previously served in Yei and Morobo. He said the late officer was known for his professionalism, commitment and intelligence throughout his military service.
Malimbo also said he directed that the body of the late captain be transported without delay following the incident, citing their long-standing professional relationship and the need to support the bereaved family during the difficult period.
He further described Captain Logu Gaitano as a patriot who contributed to South Sudan's liberation struggle and remained committed to promoting unity within both his family and the wider community.
Commissioner Huda Michael Laila expressed condolences to the bereaved family and encouraged them to remain strong despite their loss. She said the late officer's service and sacrifice for the country would be remembered.
She also commended Commissioner Samuel Henry Malimbo and the leadership of Yei River County for supporting the family throughout the mourning period, describing the gesture as a demonstration of solidarity and cooperation between neighbouring counties.
Speaking on behalf of the family, the father of the late Captain Isaac Logu Gaitano said the loss had left him deeply grief-stricken and without words to fully express his sorrow.
He described his son as a pillar of strength within the family and thanked the Commissioner of Yei River County and the county leadership for assisting with the transportation of the body for burial.
According to the family's biography, Captain Isaac Logu Gaitano was born on 1 January 1969 and died on 26 April 2026 at the age of 57.
The family said he served in the Sudan People's Liberation Army/Movement (SPLA/M) before continuing his service in the South Sudan People's Defence Forces (SSPDF), where he attained the rank of captain and later served as Head of Military Intelligence in Kaya and Morobo County.
According to the family, Captain Logu Gaitano was travelling from Kaya to Yei to accompany the body of his deceased brother for burial when the vehicle carrying them came under ambush on the outskirts of Morobo County. Four people, including Captain Logu Gaitano, were killed in the attack.

Yei, July 10, 2026 - More than 1,000 people turned up at the Directorate of Nationality, Passports and Immigration in Yei River County on Friday as the distribution of newly processed South Sudan national identity cards officially began.
The exercise follows the arrival of more than 4,000 national identity cards for applicants from the four counties of the Greater Yei region, according to immigration officials.
Speaking at the launch, Col. Moses Paul Lokiko, an immigration officer from Juba, commended the Directorate of Nationality, Passports and Immigration for processing the identity cards. He also acknowledged support from the European Union, which assisted the initiative.
Col. Lokiko said the distribution exercise had officially commenced and assured applicants that the Yei office was ready to issue the documents to eligible recipients. He encouraged all South Sudanese citizens to obtain national identity cards, describing them as essential legal documents.
He further said that new applications submitted through the office are expected to be processed within approximately two weeks, provided applicants meet the required procedures and documentation.
The Acting Director of the Directorate of Nationality, Passports and Immigration in Yei Philip aKuai confirmed that the office had received more than 4,000 national identity cards and had begun distributing them to applicants from across the Greater Yei region.
He said a South Sudan passport costs US$100, while the processing fee for a national identity card is more than 50,000 South Sudanese Pounds (SSP), in accordance with the applicable government charges.
Among those collecting their documents was Jane Nyoka Eluzai, who welcomed the initiative and thanked the Directorate of Nationality, Passports and Immigration and the European Union for supporting the processing of identity cards.
Eluzai said she had waited many years to obtain a national identity card and described receiving the document as an important milestone that would enable her to access government and other public services.
The distribution exercise is expected to continue in the coming days as thousands of applicants collect their national identity cards from the Directorate's office in Yei River County.
