🌍🗣️ 21st February – International Mother Language Day
Today, we celebrate the beauty of our mother languages and the power of words that shape our identity, culture, and heritage.
Observed every year on 21st February, this day was proclaimed by UNESCO to promote linguistic diversity and multilingual education, inspired by the historic 1952 Language Movement in Bangladesh. On 21st February 1952, Bangladeshi students and citizens took to the streets to demand recognition of their mother tongue as an official language. On that day, more than 10 people lost their lives after being shot with live bullets, sacrificing themselves for the right to speak their mother tongue.
Let us honor all languages and stand together to preserve them for future generations.
