Save the Children South Sudan together with Ministry of General Education and Instruction, County Education Department and local partners have conducted assessment of 38 schools in Malakal, Rubkona and Twic counties of Upper Nile, Unity and Warrap state.

The school assessment exercise which kicked off on Tuesday 5th May 2026 informed the selection of schools to be considered for retrofitting under the Building Resilient Climate Resilience of Children and communities through Education (BRACE) project implemented by Save the Children in partnership with the government and local partners such as SPEDEP, HESS, HASS and CSI.

BRACE project focuses on building resilient schools, integrating climate education and establishing early warning systems for over 200,000 children with a strong focus on girls’ education and safety. The project is implemented in six states of South Sudan, in Unity, Jonglei, Eastern Equatoria, Warrap State, Upper Nile and Lakes State with funding from Green Climate Fund (GCE) and Global Partnership for Education (GPE).

The project’s aim is to strengthen Education systems against climate shocks such as floods and droughts while safeguarding children’s right to safe, inclusive and uninterrupted learning.
