Apparently, civilians who sought humanitarian cash assistance in Akobo last week are now armed with deadly weapons and perpetrating mass atrocities in Walgak.
The government of South Sudan and Ethiopia should start reviewing contracts of the so called humanitarian aid organizatoon operating within their country. Otherwise they could be resources for insecurity in the backyard.

The Pochalla Supportive Supervision Team continues to make steady progress in implementing the ongoing supportive supervision assignment across Pochalla County, with the objective of assessing the overall health situation, strengthening the quality of health service delivery, mentoring healthcare workers, and engaging local authorities and communities to improve health system performance.
Since the commencement of the assignment, the team has undertaken several important coordination and supervision activities despite challenging operating conditions. In Pochalla North, the team successfully conducted supportive supervision visits to Otallo Primary Health Care Centre (PHCC) and Ajwara PHCC. These visits focused on assessing the functionality of health facilities, reviewing service delivery, identifying operational gaps, mentoring healthcare workers, and providing on-site technical guidance to enhance the quality of healthcare services.
The mission has not been without challenges. Poor road infrastructure and the absence of reliable mobile network coverage have significantly affected movement between health facilities, making access difficult and increasing travel time. Despite these constraints, the team's dedication and commitment ensured that all planned supervision activities were successfully completed.
As part of strengthening coordination with local health authorities, the team held a productive meeting with the County Health Department (CHD) focal person in Pochalla. Discussions centered on planning movements to health facilities, coordinating supervision schedules, enhancing collaboration between the supervision team and county health authorities, and ensuring the effective implementation of supportive supervision activities throughout the county.
Upon arrival in Pochalla South, the team also paid a courtesy visit to the Acting Commissioner and security personnel. The meeting focused on security arrangements, operational planning, and logistical coordination for movements to the targeted health facilities. The Acting Commissioner assured the team of their safety and security throughout their stay and pledged the full support of the county administration to facilitate the successful implementation of the assignment.
Beyond health facility assessments, the supportive supervision mission is providing an opportunity to engage healthcare workers through mentorship, coaching, and technical guidance aimed at improving adherence to national standards and strengthening routine health service delivery. The team is also engaging local leaders, health authorities, and community stakeholders to promote collaboration, identify local health priorities, and encourage community participation in improving health outcomes.
