The Government of The Gambia has officially launched the National Identity Management System (NIMS), marking a significant step toward building a trusted and sovereign Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI).

The new system introduces instant issuance of the GAM ID, replacing the previous slow and bureaucratic process with real-time service delivery.

Citizens will now be able to receive and activate their national ID immediately after biometric enrolment, making identity services faster, more efficient, and more accessible.

This initiative also aligns with the World Bank's vision of user-centered and inclusive digital identity systems, helping to improve access to public and private services across the country.

🇬🇲 A new era of secure, modern, and efficient identity management begins for The Gambia.

President General Mamady Doumbouya said all gold must now be processed into ingots within Guinea before it can be exported.

The decision follows consultations with gold producers and buyers and mirrors Zimbabwe's earlier ban on raw lithium exports. Authorities warn that any operator violating the new policy risks having their license suspended and their mining contracts terminated.

The move is expected to increase value addition, create jobs, and ensure Guinea benefits more from its natural resources.
