Kono Rehabilitation Centre Discharges Former Victims of Drug and Substance Abuse.

KONO DISTRICT, SIERRA LEONE – On Friday, 5th June 2026, the Kono Rehabilitation Centre successfully discharged a group of former victims of drug and substance abuse during a well-attended ceremony held at the 9 Battalion Simbakoro Barracks in Kono District.

The event was organized under Pillar 4: Rehabilitation, Recovery and Reintegration, led by the Ministry of Social Welfare (MOSW) as part of the National Taskforce on Drug and Substance Abuse. The ceremony marked an important milestone in the government's efforts to combat drug abuse and support the recovery and reintegration of affected youths into society.

Speaking at the event, stakeholders commended the progress made by the rehabilitated beneficiaries and encouraged them to remain focused, responsible, and committed to building productive lives. The programme also highlighted the importance of community support, family involvement, and continuous mentorship in helping recovering individuals successfully reintegrate into society.

The discharge ceremony serves as a symbol of hope and transformation, demonstrating that recovery is possible when individuals receive the necessary care, guidance, and opportunities.

The Central Youths Organization (CYO) welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting awareness campaigns, youth empowerment programmes, and community efforts aimed at creating a drug-free Kono District.
