Unfortunately, after 17 years of providing historical sewing content and community, Foundations Revealed is closing its doors. We have gone into liquidation as of 10/6/25.

The current economic situation in the US has had a significant impact on our business and, while we have tried to implement changes since new management took over at the end of 2024, due to falling membership numbers we are unable to continue to provide the content our Stitchlings deserve while covering our costs.

The website will remain live until a formal closing date is announced and all those with annual memberships can request a refund on a pro-rated basis.

As many of you know, the deadline for our annual Foundations Revealed competition is fast approaching. We’re so proud of the creativity and dedication this event inspires every year—it's always a highlight for our team and community alike.

However, in the spirit of full transparency, we wanted to share that running the competition is a significant investment for us. Given the current economic climate and our desire to manage costs responsibly, we are considering postponing this year’s event.

Before making any final decisions, we would really appreciate hearing from you. Whether you’ve entered the competition before, were planning to participate this year, or just follow it with interest, your feedback will help us plan future competitions in a way that better serves the community and is sustainable for us.

Jacket, Late 18th c., French

This stunning jacket is a wonderful example of that often-repeated costumer saying - piecing IS period!

While this jacket would be designed to be worn over a gown, lining the garment was still an essential step in it's longevity, and construction. The outer of the jacket is made from a luxurious striped silk, however, the inside is lined with a time capsule of fashionable materials from years gone by, with even the tiniest patches of fabric utilized to their full potential!
