The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA), commonly known as Dow Jones, or simply the Dow, is one of the oldest stock market indices in the world. It is named after its creators, financial journalists Charles Dow and Edward Jones. The index was first published on 26 May 1896 and featured 12 US industrial companies.
