UltraTech Cement Ltd., the flagship cement company of the Aditya Birla Group, has become the world’s largest cement producer outside China after crossing 200 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of installed capacity in India.

The achievement comes after the commissioning of new grinding units in Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh, which together added 8.7 MTPA to the company’s capacity. The expansion takes UltraTech beyond the 200 MTPA mark.

Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla said the company’s growth has accelerated significantly over time. “It took us 36 years to reach 100 million tonnes. The next 50 million followed in five years. The 50 after that came in just over two,” he said.

The rapid expansion highlights a shift in UltraTech’s strategy, moving from gradual capacity additions to a faster, more opportunistic approach that combines greenfield projects, brownfield expansions and acquisitions.
