📖 Annika is 27 years old and currently studies Literature in Paris. Ever since working as a volunteer at Root Foundation Rwanda in 2017/2018, she has been involved in the work of the organization.

📢 At Root Foundation Germany, Annika has contributed to the organization in many positions, such as in the production of the annual magazine or as child protection officer. Recently, she has rejoined the board of the organization and is responsible for question concerning the team in Germany and our relations to Rwanda.

📖 Annika ist 27 Jahre alt und studiert derzeit Literaturwissenschaften in Paris. Seit ihrem Freiwilligendienst bei der Root Foundation Ruanda 2017/2018 engagiert sie sich für die Organisation.

📢 Bei der Root Foundation Germany hat Annika in vielen Bereichen mitgewirkt, beispielsweise bei der Erstellung unseres Jahresmagazins oder als Kinderschutzbeauftragte. Seit kurzem ist sie wieder im Vorstand der Organisation tätig und dort zuständig für alles, was das Team in Deutschland sowie unseren Kontakt nach Ruanda betrifft.

Here, members and friends of Root Foundation Germany get to talk to each other about topics, that inform our work and influence us in our activities.

Starting this series off are Annika and Paul, both long-term members of Root Foundation Germany. They have met in Berlin to discuss what the first return to Rwanda is like for them as previous volunteers at Root Foundation Rwanda.

Wir führen ein neues Format ein: Root Talks 🗣️🎙️
Hier können Mitglieder und Freund:innen der Root Foundation Germany miteinander über Themen sprechen, die unsere Arbeit prägen und unsere Tätigkeit beeinflussen.

Den Anfang dieser Reihe machen Annika und Paul, beide langjährige Mitglieder der Root Foundation Germany. Sie haben sich in Berlin getroffen, um darüber zu sprechen, was die Rückkehr nach Rwanda für sie als ehemalige Freiwillige der Root Foundation Rwanda bedeutet.

As part of our new partnership project between .germany & .rw – “Isuku isoko y'ubuzima bwiza” (“Hygiene is the source of good health”) –, the Rwandan team organised a training on and .

Angelique, an expert from , trained Root Foundation's team members on how to ensure hygiene, sanitation & food safety at the new children's center. She also provided them with tools to train children, youth & parents.

As the next step, team members from Root Foundation organised in smaller groups for 500 children, youth & parents overall. These addressed personal hygiene, the use of sanitation materials, and infectious disease response. They also offered a starting point for children's longer-term engagement with the topic – as hygiene ambassadors or club members.

We are grateful to Stiftung Nord-Süd-Brücken for approving and funding our project as well as to Peter Wroblowski and Heike Zängerlein for their complementary support. This project is co-financed from tax funds based on the budget passed by the Free State of Saxony (.sachsen).

Als Teil des neuen Partnerschaftsprojekts zwischen der Root Foundation Germany e.V. und der Root Foundation – "Isuku isoko y'ubuzima bwiza” („Hygiene ist die Quelle guter Gesundheit”) – hat das ruandische Team ein Training zu Gesundheit & Hygiene organisiert.

Angelique, Expertin von Kosmotive Rwanda, schulte die Teammitglieder der Root Foundation, um Hygiene, Gesundheitspflege & Lebensmittelsicherheit im Kinder- & Jugendzentrum zu garantieren. Zudem brachte sie ihnen Tools zur Schulung der Community nahe.

Die Root Foundation organisierte schließlich mehrere Gruppen-Workshops für insgesamt 500 Kinder, Jugendliche und Eltern. Diese befassten sich mit Hygiene, der Anwendung von Hygieneartikeln und dem Umgang mit Infektionskrankheiten. Das Team motivierte Kinder auch zum Engagement etwa in Hygiene-AGs.

Wir danken der Stiftung Nord-Süd-Brücken für die Förderung sowie Peter Wroblowski & Heike Zängerlein für ihre ergänzende Unterstützung. Diese Maßnahme wird mitfinanziert durch Steuermittel auf der Grundlage des vom Sächsischen Landtag beschlossenen Haushaltes.
