In Russia, the Day of Knowledge is celebrated annually on September 1. It got its name due to the fact that it is the first day of autumn, when the new academic year begins in all Russian schools, as well as secondary and higher educational institutions.
Knowledge Day is a holiday for all students, their parents and teachers, as well as all those people who are somehow connected with the service of schoolchildren and students.
Initially, all peoples celebrated this day as a harvest festival. In our country, back in the time of Peter the Great, it was customary to celebrate the New Year on this day. But then it was decided to postpone the New Year to January 1, on the model of European countries.
It should be recalled that officially the Day of Knowledge began to be celebrated in the USSR since 1984. Before September 1 received the status of a public holiday, it was a school day. Although this day began with a solemn ruler, but then the usual lessons were held.
The first persons of the state traditionally congratulate teachers and students on the Knowledge Day on September 1. Various educational institutions are visited by representatives of the administration of districts and cities.
We can say that there is no person in Russia who would not remember with joy the day of the first call, his first teacher and school friends.

On August 19, the Orthodox will celebrate the Apple Savior. This day also accounts for the church celebration of the Transfiguration of the Lord. On this day, believers remember the evangelical events on Mount Tabor. According to legend, Jesus Christ led his disciples to the top, where he appeared in all his greatness. People believe that in this way Jesus Christ showed people how the world will be transformed in the future.
On this day, it is customary to bring the harvest to the temple for consecration. This tradition is associated with the belief that the ripening of fruits is a reward for all the work done. Sanctifying apples and other fruits, the church fills human labor with God's grace, believers believe. In addition, legends say that consecrated apples have magical power: when biting off the first piece, you should make a wish, and it will come true.
It is customary to cook all kinds of apple dishes for Apple Spas: jam, pies, salads. It is also customary to give fruits to guests, as well as to distribute to those in need. At the same time, in ancient times they believed that it was impossible to eat apples before the holiday.

Pskov Region Porkhovskaya Fortress
Porkhovskaya Fortress, whose history remembers the raids of "friends" and strangers, is one of the most noteworthy sights in the Pskov region. More than once she experienced falls and restorations, burning and subsequent restoration.
After Pskov and Novgorod were taken over by Moscow, Porkhov found himself far from the external borders and his restless belligerent neighbors stopped bothering him. Therefore, today you can see the ancient fortifications of the fortress, not distorted by later restorations and restoration.
By the end of the 19th century, a branch of the railway was launched through the town, and, thanks to this, the development of its infrastructure received a powerful impetus.
During the Second World War, the Porkhovsky Kremlin was under the Germans for 4 years. But the spiritual mission of Porkhov, with the permission of the occupiers, continued to operate and conduct services in the St. Nicholas Church.
Today it is one of the most interesting points of interest in the Pskov region.
