The mass production cannot provide highly nutritious food, including fruits and vegetables. This problem is associated with a huge amount of time before products appear on the supermarket shelves.

🔍Andrés Gómez Mares, graduate of the Master’s programme ‘Prototyping future cities’, proposed to develop urban farming as a way to shorten food supply chains that would not need chemicals anymore for long transportation issues
🔍Andres developed the automated, smart hydroponic system ‘Food Unit’. It allows plants growing without soil, you need only water and artificial sunlight needed. It makes fruits and vegetables production easy and accessible for every household.
🔍Based on the analysis of needs and opportunities of Moscow families, the strategy for ‘Food Unit’ implementation was designed.
🔍Andres pointed that COVID-19 would have a controversial effect on the ‘Food Unit’ application: isolation can motivate people to grow food in their flats, but it would affect distribution negatively. Citizens might have no trust in local producers without regulation of food security.
