Midterm reports for our Core Project PN 23 21 02 01 - Ion Beams for Science, Education and Technology

Daniela Pascal spoke on behalf of the AMS Team about new methodological developments of 10Be measurements in the context of paleoclimatics, while Udrescu & Andrei Bac presented our new website (https://dfna.nipne.ro/draft/) and a synchrotron mock-up to be used by the pupils in their classroom.
The main conclusions (published by EduPedu https://cdn.edupedu.ro/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Cercetarea-romaneasca-are-nevoie-de-o-voce-Memorandum-CNCS-2026.pdf) from the very first Romanian Conference for Science Communication (https://www.uvt.ro/blog/prima-conferinta-nationala-de-comunicare-a-stiintei-un-pas-important-pentru-cresterea-vizibilitatii-cercetarii-romanesti-11-12-iunie-2026/) were also discussed and a clear message emerged: SCIENCE NEEDS A MORE POWERFUL VOICE TO BE HEARD!

What happened thousands of years ago when the Earth entered its last recorded Ice Age? What were the exact stages, and how fast did they occur? Most importantly, how can this ancient history help us tackle today’s climate change challenges?

These are the questions driving the work of our colleague Daniela Pascal. Her quest for answers has taken her from studying Romanian glaciers all the way to the ends of the Earth!

As part of a joint collaboration lead by scientists from Bulgarian Antarctic Institute, Daniela traveled to Livingston Island in Antarctica to collect critical environmental samples for our RoAMS lab here at IFIN-HH. 🇦🇶🇷🇴🇧🇬

Today, July 1st, we are proud to mark an important milestone in this international collaboration! Daniela was honored to present at the Symposium on Scientific Research in Antarctica, hosted by the GeoEcoMar Institute in Constanța. She shared the latest updates on her and the RoAMS team's work: reconstructing the glacial history of Livingston Island using in situ cosmogenic ¹⁰Be exposure dating.

”Another one bites the dust... ”, while Queen might have had a different meaning in mind, in this case it could be regarded as conquering the journey of a doctorate.

Please join us in sending a massive congratulations to Burghelea George-Bogdan for successfully defending his PhD thesis.
His work focused on air pollution in Romania, considering a data set from 2020. Even now we can remember about that unbelievably complicated and challenging year for the entire planet. Navigating global uncertainty, lockdowns, and unprecedented stress while conducting rigorous scientific research takes immense resilience, grit, and dedication.

We are incredibly proud of your hard work and perseverance. 🥰
