In Search of Clear Skies – Erasmus+ Youth Exchange in Samobor, Croatia

Between 26 June and 2 July 2026, 6 youngsters and 2 group leaders joined young people from Croatia and North Macedonia for the youth exchange “In Search of Clear Skies”, organised by Association Pozitiva Samobor within the project “Between Screens and Stars.”

The programme focused on mental health, digital well-being and the connection between young people and nature. Participants took part in creative workshops, outdoor team challenges, daily reflection sessions, a city activity in Samobor and a full-day hike in Samoborsko Gorje.

This project was designed for young people aged 13 to 17, which is still quite rare in Erasmus+ youth exchanges. We are therefore very happy that we could offer this opportunity to younger teenagers as well and give them the chance to take part in an international experience from an early age.

The week also included an intercultural evening, where the three national groups shared traditions, food and stories from their countries, as well as a final Youthpass session focused on the learning process and the competences developed during the exchange.

It was a good opportunity to spend less time in front of screens, more time outdoors and to discuss openly how technology affects everyday life.

The second week of summer holidays has come to an end and it was another week full of learning, creativity and fun with the kids! 🌞 All of us volunteers prepared some workshops for the kids and, like every week, got to know Curtea de Argeș and its inhabitants a little better.
We kicked things off with programming, where Ahmet guided the kids through their first steps in Arduino, learning how code can bring hardware to life.
With Emi, the children continued building on their bridge skills from last week — improving their concentration and strategic thinking session by session. ♠️♥️
¡Hola! ¿Qué tal? Eloy then introduced the kids to the Spanish language, sparking curiosity about new words, sounds and cultures. 🇪🇸
Catherine ran a poetry workshop, encouraging the kids to think creatively and step outside the box, turning imagination into words on paper. ✍️📖
Friday was our Funday, which brought a daytime cinema session — the perfect way to wind down after a busy week of workshops. 🎬🍿
All in all, another great week volunteering in Curtea de Argeș. We can't wait to see what next week brings!

Another busy and enjoyable week of volunteering in Curtea de Argeș brought plenty of opportunities for the children to try something new, ask questions and learn together.

We started the week with a workshop led by Elanur, who introduced the children to the Turkish language and culture. They learned a few everyday words, talked about traditions in Türkiye and discovered what daily life looks like from a different perspective.

Later, the group took on an engineering challenge by building protective structures for eggs using simple materials. Once the designs were finished, it was time for the real test. The eggs were dropped to see which creations could keep them safe. It was a fun activity that encouraged creative thinking and problem solving.

Ahmed introduced the children to the basics of algorithms through games and practical examples. By breaking tasks into simple steps, they explored how logical thinking works and discovered that programming concepts can be understood without using a computer.

We finished the week with a botany workshop led by Hannah. The children went outside to look for different flowers, collected and pressed them and created their own small flower books. Along the way, they learned how to observe, identify and classify different plant species.

From learning about another culture to experimenting with science, engineering and nature, it was a varied week that kept everyone curious and involved. We're grateful to all the volunteers who shared their knowledge and to the children for bringing so much enthusiasm to every activity.

The idea of the project is to develop an innovative training course that combines environmental sustainability with digital media tools, empowering youth workers to communicate eco-sustainability in creative and impactful ways. The project responds to the growing need for more effective climate communication, recognizing that environmental challenges require new approaches to engaging and inspiring communities. By equipping participants with practical digital skills and sustainable development knowledge, the course enables them to create compelling content, raise environmental awareness, and encourage young people to take an active role in building a more sustainable future.
