Can a 4$ lens take good photos?

I recently got an autofocusing, full frame, macro capable lens from the flea market for a bargain price. Luckily it has a Pentax K-Mount so it works perfect on the quirky Pentax K-01.

Fixed lenses are amazing when it comes to shooting people.
The slightly longer focal length along with the wide they usually provide make for a shallow depth of field that helps you focus on your subject.

Shot using the mirrorless Canon EOS R and adapted Canon EF 85mm f/1.4 lens.

The Canon EOS R and EOS RP are great hiking options when coupled with the Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8 and Canon RF 15-30mm f/2.8 respectively. Having them both will cover a range of focal lengths from the ultra wide angle 15mm all the way up to the telephoto 200mm with the bright constant f/2.8 aperture throughout the range. The only missing field of view would be between 35mm and 70mm, not a deal breaker. Being that the RF system is mirrorless these 2 kits have reasonable size and will not weight you down much.

The photos were all shot with the mentioned gear and edited to taste.

Can you guess which photo was taken wtih which lens? Hint: The first one is with the wide angle 15-35mm 2.8 lens and Canon EOS RP camera.

Beauty probably isn’t the first metric that you should judge a camera on. But photographers supposedly have an eye for pretty things. So who could judge us for wanting a beautiful retro looking camera as our tool?

The smallest full frame combo from Canon is a great option for all around photography. The sensor has great color and resolution, the autofocus is reliable and the coupled 35mm f/1.8 RF is a versatile lens with the added bonus of having close focus abilities. While not a true lens it does have a magnification factor of 0.5x, good enough for getting really close to small objects.

Great for: travel photography, hiking.

Good for: portraits, street photography, weddings, macro, landscapes.
